    POSTGAME QUOTES
    HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

    On tonight’s game:
This loss stings a bit. I thought our team played a really good game. I think we had three or four posts in the second
period and another one in the third. The team did a lot of good stuff. We found our game today. We had a great start,
which is something we’ve been struggling with the team being ready at the beginning of the game. We started to get into
some penalty trouble at the end of the first which is something that we’ve discussed a lot. We’ve got to make sure we
clean it up out of our game because when we’re playing top opponents who are undefeated, we can play with them, we
can win hockey games but if we’re going to continue to take penalties especially the stick infractions, it just puts us behind
a little. Overall the effort, the compete, our offensive and defensive structure, the energy and just the whole process of
how the guys played today was the right way. It was just one of those games. Sometimes you do everything that you can
and the bounces just don’t go in your favour but we should feel pretty proud of how we played today.
    ALEX BIEGA
    On tonight’s game:
I think it was a good test for our group being in a high energy building like that. For the most part, we had a really solid
game. A couple of bounces here and there could have gone the other way but for the most part, pretty happy with two
points on the road and we just have to take what we have to get better at in this week in practice and execute next week.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On the team’s structure:
They’re starting to buy into it. They’re starting to see how it works and much like most teams, you’ve got to rely on each other. All five guys on the ice have got to play their role and do their part to make sure that we’re protecting ourselves defensively but ultimately it helps us create more offence when we can get pucks back faster, transition quicker and use all five guys inside of that. What’s really been impressive with this group with the game in Laval with how challenging of a game that was and how much adversity we went through as a group, a lot of teams could have very easily just folded in, given up, started pointing the finger, brought negative energy or a poor me attitude coming into the weekend but we have a lot of good leadership, a lot of good guys in this room and for them to step up in these two games and have a response like we have in the way we played, it shows a lot of good signs with the group that we have.

On the key to consecutive wins:
The three games in four days, it’s not easy to play at this pace and in this league to sustain a high tempo and play as fast as we do in that many games in a short amount of time. Managing our shifts, managing our workload, being able to use our entire bench and trust everybody in all situations really helps us do that and that showed in these last two games.

On Alex Steeves’s contributions to the lineup:
He’s brought a lot to our team the last two games. Not only goal scoring obviously but all the little things that help win hockey games – his work ethic, competitiveness, his ability to make plays with the puck, game management items. He’s come in early here and led by example.

ALEX STEEVES (2 GOALS)

On the team’s success today:
Just playing the right way. Early on in the season, we weren’t always willing to create offence the right way. We have so much talent that when we put it behind them and let our offensive instincts take over, we’ve been rewarded with what we’ve been able to put up and how we’ve been able to defend.

On the team’s structure:

Our structure is all based off of being aggressive and wanting to get the puck back so, we can attack. You can’t attack and get the puck without playing an honest game and having a high F3 who’s working his butt off to get back. We have a lot to feel good about. We stayed disciplined, we stayed with the game plan and that’s why we won.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On Alex Steeves’ AHL debut:
Great. He brought a ton of energy. We’ve been eager to see him in and he’s been chomping to get in the lineup and start playing with us. He has a really good shot, a really good scoring touch. His competitiveness and work ethic is some of the best we’ve seen. It’s been a little bit of a long road since his injury and the reason he can have such a big impact in the first game back is because of how much work he put in in his time off.

On the defence:
I thought all six of our D played really well tonight. They were smart with where they were positioning themselves around the rink, making sure we stayed above their speed and their guys that are trying to take off in behind us. Their puck play was simple, efficient and at the same time creative. D don’t have to be flashy. They just have to be really smart with their reads and we have really smart D who read the puck fast because of their skillset.

BRENNAN MENELL (GAME-WINNING GOAL)

On tonight’s game:
Commitment to structure. We got a little loose last game and also just having a better start. Going down early in the last game, we knew we had to change that. Staying out of the box too. I think we won the special teams game. That’s a huge component in why we won. We just knew that we had to have a bounce back game to get back in the win column.

ALEX STEEVES (1 ASSIST)

On his first game:
It was awesome. Admittedly, there were times where I was a little heavy of breath. Ultimately, I just wanted to help the team win today and am super excited we got a big win.

On the team’s win:
(Källgren) played really well in net which is always huge. There was a bigger commitment then I’ve seen most of the year of guys just willing to put it behind the defencemen and go get it, playing the right way to get offence and we were opportunistic at the right times.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On today’s game:
The first period was more of what we were looking for as a staff for the group. The second period was really tough. We had some guys that don’t kill that sat there for a long time. It was hard for them to get into the flow of the game. Back in the third, again we got into a flow, back into a rhythm. We got to use the depth of our roster and gain some momentum.

On how Toronto held back the push from Cleveland:
By our team sticking to a plan of having good structure offensively and defensively. We looked more like a group of five guys on the ice who were pulling in the same direction. And just the competitiveness of the guys being hungry to win a hockey game. The process was right today. Good to see the guys get rewarded when they do things right.

On the line of Anderson, Semyonov and Seney:
They’ve really been driving a lot for us. First and foremost, their competitiveness, how hard they work consistency. Relentless puck pressure and their ability to take away time and space and get a puck back quick, get back to offence faster. And then you couple that with how much skill they have and they’re able to make plays on the inside. They’ve really been a driving force for us to start the season.

On Joseph Woll:
He was, no pun intended, a wall back there. Made some really good saves at big key moments of the game and then to shut the door in the shootout. It’s really good to see him back and doing well. He’s come a long way these last couple of years and his work is paying off.

JOSH HO-SANG

On Joseph Woll:
Woll was absolutely stellar. He’s been itching to get in the lineup. It was his first game of the year. Credit to him. He stood on his head. He made a couple of big saves. On certain plays, we hung him out to dry a little and he said, don’t worry guys, I got you. It’s nice to see that from Woller. He’s such a great guy, great energy in the room. That’s what you need from your goalie. He picks you up when you’re down and he stands up when you need him. Both our goalies are great at doing that and that’s our expectation of him this year.

    POSTGAME QUOTES
    HEAD COACH GREG MOORE
    On today’s game:
To start the game, some good life, some good jump. The guys did a good job sticking to the game plan early. We
generated some good scoring chances; we had a lot of momentum going. A couple of unfortunate bounces. The real
positive takeaway early in the game was even with the goals against, the bench stayed positive. Their process today was
much better than it was even last weekend early on in the game and even in the second, we found a way to generate
momentum, start fighting back. The early goal in the third, you can tell the bench deflated a little bit. It’s tough looking at
these games. You look at the final result and it’s definitely not good enough and not a result that we want to have. If we’re
comparing last weekend and how we came out for the first half of this game, there was much improved gameplay for our
team. So, we’re going to stick to some of the positives here at the beginning. Tomorrow is another big opportunity for us,
and you could tell this one stings. These two last losses were big, and we need to make sure that when we’re coming to
play and we’re generating offence, there’s got to be more structure to our offence. It’s a little loose right now and we’re
going to tighten it up and make sure that we’re putting ourselves in a good spot offensively and defensively, not just
    offensively.
On Brett Seney’s performance through three games:
Really impressive. His work ethic, the way he thinks the game. For someone his size even at this level, he doesn’t just
rely on soft skill. He works hard, he helps get pucks back, he puck pressures. It’s just easy to read off of him. He’s just
doing everything the right way and he gets rewarded for it, for playing the right way.

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On the team’s play at the end of the season:
It definitely feels good. There were stretches of the season where it felt a little bit on repeat in terms of answering some of the questions postgame with some of the inconsistencies and starts. A lot of that had to do with a lot of new bodies, people coming in midseason which kind of felt like the start of the year again where we had to work through some items and get everybody back on the same page which takes time, takes development, takes practice. It felt really special, really special these last five, six, seven games where everything just game together. We had a really good group of guys who bonded through an adverse season and found ways to win the games down the stretch.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On tonight’s game:
It was not the first period we were looking for. We haven’t had good starts against this team. I don’t know what has been the problem mentally for our guys to get excited to play against a team that typically is a bit of a rival for us with how many times we play them per year in the regular season, how close they are. We’ve had such good success the last four games, 60-minutes of playing a certain way. We got to it into the second period at some point but we shot ourselves in the foot a little bit early. It was a great effort for the guys to come back, find their way into managing the game and starting and setting up our O-zones better but we put ourselves in a tough spot early.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On tonight’s game:
Hutch was great today. Maybe the best game I’ve seen him play in person. Really calm, really poised. He fought so hard to find pucks through traffic. Being able to get to rebounds and get to his feet and push. He was really impressive to watch today. The team as a whole, there was no panic. The last few games here, you can tell they have confidence that even when they weather the storm, they know what they need to get back on track. They know the formula. It just takes one big shift to turn it around and start adding to some sequences to tilt the ice back in our favour and they find a way to do that even after a little bit of a push from the opponent.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On facing Laval:
There’s definitely times whenever you play Laval that you’re going to have to weather some type of storm. Just the way in which they play. I don’t think regardless of who the opponent is against them with how hard they forecheck and then they just get pucks to the point and get a lot of rubber on net, you have to break the cycle at some point. Our guys have done a really good job of managing the game. There’s been some five, six, seven minutes segments throughout the last three games where we haven’t had to spend any time in our D-zone and that’s just the guys being really smart with the puck managing the game, managing the ice. When you’re stuck in your D-zone and they’re shooting everything, tonight it was really impressive. Our forwards, their willingness to get in lanes, block shots. Our D were boxing out hard at the net, they were blocking shots too. Our forwards did a good job of collapsing out front, out numbering them defensively at the net and being able to get good exits.
