POSTGAME QUOTES: JOHN TAVARES Q: On where the game got away from them: John Tavares: “We completely played into their game and allowed them to use their transition and they’re one of the best in the league in that area. We had two-on-ones and the opportunities that we gave up were disappointing. I think we really got away from out game today. We still battled to keep the door open going into the third and obviously we just weren’t able to generate enough… giving up those opportunities and the amount of goals, obviously you can’t win hockey games this late, yeah we just got away for whatever reason…” Q: On Joseph Woll’s play: John Tavares: Yeah, it could have been a lot worse. One hundred percent. It’s not good enough the way we defended tonight and the way we played through the neutral zone. Especially just allowed them to use their speed and their skill which they’re so good with… He did a good job making a bunch of saves keeping it what it was because of that we got it to 5-3 and gave ourselves a little bit of hope in the third and obviously you know what happened.” AUSTON MATTHEWS On the emotions of the game and where the game got away from them: Auston Matthews: “I’m not really sure to be honest, I think it was just kind of a snowball effect. It just kind of spiraled out of control. It wasn’t really hockey in that third period, it was a bit of a gong show. I don’t really know how else to put it.” MORGAN RIELLY Q: On an emotional game: Morgan Rielly: “Yeah I think it’s important to balance it. We want to try to win the game but you want to stick up for your teammates and try to stick together as a group. So, I think you have to find the balance and keep pushing all the way to the end.” TIMOTHY LILJEGREN Q: On getting back into the lineup: Timothy Liljegren: “It felt good. Obviously, it would have felt better if we had won but it felt good to get back out there.

The club leads the NHL in wins when allowing the first goal of the game (7, tied) and when trailing heading into the second period (4). Columbus has come back from multiple goal deficits in two of its contests (Nov. 3 at COL and Nov. 15 vs. DET). The club has also had the flair for the dramatics this season, scoring the game-winning goal with less than 1:30 left in regulation twice (Nov. 6 vs. COL; Nov. 15 vs. DET). STAYING STRONG WHILE PLAYING SHORT CBJ’s penalty kill units have come up big over the past five weeks. The club is second in the NHL in penalty kill pct. over that span (PIT, 90.7), killing off 35-of-39 attempts (89.7). THE ROAD WELL TRAVELED Columbus is in the middle of a stretch dominated in road games. Prior to Sunday’s home game, the club had completed a four-game road trip. Following Thursday’s contest vs. Anaheim at Nationwide Arena, the team will head out on a five-game road trip to face Seattle, western Canadian teams (Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary) before finishing at Buffalo from Dec. 11-20. CBJ play 7-of-9 games from Nov. 18-Dec. 4 and 13-of-17 from Nov. 18- Dec. 20 away from Nationwide Arena. THE KIDS ARE MORE THAN ALRIGHT The Blue Jackets kicked off the season as the youngest team in the NHL (avg. age 25.71) and many of the club’s youngest players have already made a big impact just 23 games into the season. Alexandre Texier (22), has already surpassed his career high in goals (8) and has recorded 6-4-10 in the past 14 games. Cole Sillinger (18), a 2021 first round pick, is the NHL’s youngest player and has 5-5-10 in 23 GP. SUCCESS IN NET Goaltender Elvis Merzlikins (10-4-0 in 14 GP) made franchise history in requiring the fewest games to reach 10 wins in a season with the victory on Sunday vs. San Jose. Sergei Bobrovsky previously held the record at 10 wins in the first 15 contests (2016-17 and 2017-18). Merzlikins ranks first-T in the NHL in wins and second in SV% at home this season (min. 8 home GP), going 9-1-0 with a 2.20 GAA and .935 SV% in 10 contests. POSTGAME QUOTES: HEAD COACH SHELDON KEEFE Q: On tonight’s game: Sheldon Keefe: “It’s a big point for us. Love that our guys didn’t go away in 3-0 and instead just dug in and wanted to make a game of it. We took over the game at the back half of that second period and that was enough to earn us a point.” Q: On adjusting with Marner out of the lineup: Sheldon Keefe: “Yeah, it was difficult. We knew that going in. I mean Mitch is an important player for us for obvious reasons. Not having him and having Kaše coming back and it being his first game it would be a tough ask for him to go up into that situation, we wanted to give him some familiarity. I knew going into the game, I had talked to Wayne Simmonds before the game that I was going to start him there but that I fully expected that I was going to move things all over the place and move Auston all over the place, give him different wingers at different times. I wanted Spezza to get time there, but I knew that if I did that, that I would lose a centre in doing so and I didn’t want to move Kerfoot out. I was trying to have as little disruption as possible. Once we got down, I really just kind of lost some of our guys, Joey Anderson didn’t get much here today just because I felt we were a few guys short when I was moving other people around and then penalties of course were another factor.” MORGAN RIELLY Q: On coming back from a 3-0 deficit and getting a point: Morgan Rielly: “Yeah, it’s a good thing obviously. We haven’t had to do that a lot lately, but I think it’s a good sign that we were able to come back, obviously you don’t want to put yourself in a hole. But I thought we did a good job of coming back, power plays were a big part of that. I mean we’ll take the point but moving forward we want to have better starts.” Q: On the team killing off a five-on-three: Morgan Rielly: “Yeah. Huge kill. Obviously I thought those guys did a great job, Holl and Muzzin on the back end. That’s just character, I think those are the kills that you like late in the game to see and obviously a big point in the game for us.” AUSTON MATTHEWS Q: On tonight’s game: Auston Matthews: “I think there’s a lot of good that we can take from it except being down by three. Just the resiliency of this group to continue to play and battle back. It would have been easy to just pack it in and hope for best, to live to fight another day, but we just continued to work and compete and got some big goals and got the point. Obviously we’re still leaving a little bit sour but I think we could be proud of the effort that we had.” Q: On adjusting with Marner out of the lineup: Auston Matthews: “He’s not a guy you can just replace but we have a lot of belief in our group. No matter who I play with, I have confidence in every single guy out there and obviously tonight we had lot of mixing and matching and that’s fine with me. We just go out there and compete no matter who’s on the ice and just try to create plays and create offensive zone time and look to attack so obviously, like I said, Mitch is a guy you just can’t replace but we got a lot of really good players in this locker room and a lot of believe here within our group so not matter who it is I know we have full confidence.” JASON SPEZZA Q: On tonight’s game: Jason Spezza: “Great character win for us. I thought they got some lucky breaks on their goals and it didn’t deter us. We got a lucky break on my first one and good power plays and a little back and forth. Penalty kill came up huge to get us that point, but two good hockey clubs settled by a shootout, pretty good game.” Q: On adjusting with Marner out of the lineup: Jason Spezza: “It’s not ideal but we’re pros and we go through this stuff all the time. Take Mitch out and it’s a huge cog to our team to be out of the lineup obviously. He’s not replaced by just plugging someone else in and expecting it to be replaced, but we’re pros and we’re used to this stuff happening.” JACK CAMPBELL Q: On adjusting with Marner out of the lineup: Jack Campbell: “Mitch is such a huge part of our team everybody knows that and anytime he’s in the lineup it’s huge but it’s also a huge opportunity for guys to step up and handle some adversity there, three kind of flukey goals and we battled back to force overtime and a shootout and just proud of the way those guys battled all night.” Q: On his performance during tonight’s game: Jack Campbell: “I felt really good. I felt like I was dialed in all night and just had a couple unfortunate bounces and that’s a part of hockey, 82 games in a year, you’re going to have some of those nights and just focus on the next shot and we were able to get a point but obviously I expect myself to make some of those saves in the shootout for sure.
The Golden Knights are first in the NHL with six short-handed goals and have three in their past two games entering Sunday’s matchup against the Calgary Flames.

POSTGAME QUOTES: HEAD COACH SHELDON KEEFE On the importance of a strong start coming off the western road trip: Sheldon Keefe: “I liked our start for sure. We thought we needed to start quickly in the game and obviously playing with the lead is important, always, but especially against this team so to build the lead that we did was great to see. I thought we moved the puck really well in that first period which gave us a chance to get after it and get a chance to attack the net so it was nice to get that lead to start quick.” JOHN TAVARES On tonight’s win: John Tavares: “They’re a great hockey team, they’ve got a lot of depth and tremendous amount of highend talent so just thought we had good preparation coming in, good mindset and liked the way we came out. We had good energy, especially coming off of the west coast trip. Sometimes that jet leg can linger around and especially since we had some good success coming in with the right attitude and re-focusing. I don’t think we loved our second period but I think a good sign that we withheld their push and got the lead back and then came out with a great effort in the third and increased it obviously with some great plays and some finishes throughout the lineup. Good team win and we’ll build on it and get ready for the back-to-back.” AUSTON MATTHEWS On the team having a good response after Colorado scoring twice in the second period: Auston Matthews: “I think that is something we’ve done really well this year. You know when momentum shifts to the other side and kind of gets rolling around in our end we just don’t panic. We just try to find our way back and get the momentum back on our side. It helps when our goaltender makes some big saves and guys just go out there and win their shift and get things going in their end.” JACK CAMPBELL On tonight’s win: Jack Campbell: “Yeah they are a really good team over there. They are super good offensively, they’ve got a lot of great players. I just thought we came out and continued playing how we’ve been playing for a while now and just stuck to the game plan. We had everyone contributing and it was a great win.

POSTGAME QUOTES: HEAD COACH SHELDON KEEFE On what he saw from the group today that allowed the team to finish this road trip strong: Sheldon Keefe: “I thought we regrouped after the first period. I thought Anaheim was definitely the better team in that first period. We were able to regroup and find our game in the second. They really in the first period made it hard for us to get to the neutral zone, harder to sustain that in a second period setting and that allowed us to really get our legs going. So that was a good period for us obviously, we got a lead again. Jack Campbell was great all the way throughout. We gave up certainly a lot more volume than we would have liked but I thought we defended pretty well tonight and kept things to the perimeter and limited rebound opportunities and such. Just a good team effort all the way through. Great road trip for us, this is a challenging game here to get through at the end of a long road trip, but the guys dug in and got a win and let us go home with a nice clean trip here. Really proud of the group. AUSTON MATTHEWS On the teams recent run of success: Auston Matthews: “It feels great. We’re rolling. It seems like we’re just getting consistent play out of all four lines. Our goaltending has been amazing, whether it’s Woller, obviously Soup has been unbelievable for us all year. I can’t say enough good things about him. I think just all throughout our lineup we’re getting what we need from everybody and it’s been a full team effort every single night.” On whether it’s a mindset or the way it worked out that his three goals this road trip were scored from close to the net: Auston Matthews: “I think a little bit of both. I like to think I can score from different areas. Just try to get to the net. Obviously, that’s usually where goals are scored a big percentage of the time. A lot of times when it’s not going in from outside you just have to get to the net. I was fortunate to get a couple good bounces, a couple good tips and be able to cash in on some plays.” MICHAEL BUNTING On the teams recent run of success: Michael Bunting: “It’s fun to be apart of obviously when you’re winning hockey games. The mood in the room is upbeat everyone is happy so it’s really fun to be a part of. It was a great road trip for us, and we have to head home and face a good team in Colorado so enjoy tonight and look forward to that game on Wednesday.” On the team’s confidence level: Michael Bunting: “I think the confidence level is good. Everyone is contributing now. Guys are getting on the scoresheet and guys are playing their game and it showed tonight and it showed all road trip so I think everyone is having fun.” JACK CAMPBELL On the teams recent run of success: Jack Campbell: “Yeah the boys are having a blast out there, we’re working hard and executing the game plan. We’re just enjoying it and trying to get better.” On what impresses him about the team in front of him: Jack Campbell: “They’re just going above and beyond. Everyone is doing what the game plan is and sacrificing their bodies and just committing to their rolls and playing super hard for 60 plus minutes, if it takes more, they keep it going. Just really proud of the effort out there.” ALEXANDER KERFOOT On the teams recent run of success: Alexander Kerfoot: “Yeah, it’s a lot of fun, I mean anytime you’re winning in good stretches like this it’s a lot of fun. There’s lots of energy coming to the rink everyday and we’re playing good hockey so we’ve just got to keep it up. We’ve talked all year about consistent and it’s a long haul the 82-game season so trying to not get to high but also enjoying the good run we’re on right now. On if anything feels different to last year’s regular season success: Alexander Kerfoot: “I don’t know. Anytime you’re winning games it feels good and I think during the regular season last year we had good stretches and were playing really good hockey then as well so it’s tough to say. Defensively we’ve been really solid all year long this year and that has kind of allowed us to be in most games and obviously Soupy has been unbelievable so it doesn’t really feel a ton different I don’t think. I think we were playing good hockey last season as well but it’s good to keep the momentum going.
