POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On the home-and-home series against Laval:
They’ve both been very high. They’ve been physical contests. More tempers were flaring tonight. It’s really turning into a bit of a rivalry which is really good for us. What is a very different season not playing a lot of different opponents, this is good for our team to have some fire under them. have an opponent to compete against. The other teams in the league are really tough to beat but just in terms of that rivalry feeling, this is starting to feel like that these last two games. It’ll be interesting moving forward when we play them next. It’ll be a really tough game and every game to be like this really.

On the comeback in the third period:
In the second period, we really started working more, moving our feet. There were some guys working, some guys not. We got disconnected. If we don’t have all five guys together executing what we need them to execute with the effort, we’re not as competitive as we should be. In the second period, we started working. We didn’t give up as many chances as we did in the first. As we started moving and working, we started drawing more penalties and the momentum starts to build in our favour. Really happy with the group that they found their way after what was a struggling first and then going into the third, we just continued to build on that momentum. There were for sure some things we could have done better. We could have had a better start but a heck of a job for our group to find a way back into this game, to keep chipping away, to make a big push towards the end and find a way to get a point.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On why the team went 11-7 tonight:
We had a couple of young defencemen playing tonight in McCourt and Hoefenmayer. We wanted to give them some reps, they’ve been working really hard during their time here and give them some reps in what was a very important game and test them. They showed really well. We also had a lot of players up front that could log a lot of minutes and really the versatility of players that could play centre and wing, there was a lot of things creatively that I could do with the lines with that lineup.

On what makes it difficult to play against Laval:
Their forecheck really hard. There’s always pressure, there’s always some on top of you. You really got to get comfortable playing inside of contact offensively and defensively. They don’t turn pucks over. They make you earn every inch of ice, they make you go 200-feet every time. All the game management things in terms of  length of shift, knowing where you are in the period, what period it is, there’s a lot of items that you have to be really disciplined about against a team like this and our guys were willing to do that today.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On the team grabbing four of six points this weekend:
We’re very happy. The team is starting to see the results of the work and labour they’ve been putting in for the last few weeks. Things have been coming along and they found another way to play for sixty minutes. Our D corps was great tonight. Really solid, really good gaps, played well from the middle of the rink, we didn’t give up a ton. More importantly in the D zone we were really strong closing out and stalling them out not allowing them to go low to high using their point shots, which is a big part of their game.

On wins from their goaltenders:
We’re going to need both of those guys to be on their game to have a good push here for the rest of the season. Kas came in, played a heck of a game, kept us in it. Looked really confident, looked really calm in net and when you have a goalie showing those signs it gives confidence to the team to play well.

MASON MARCHMENT (1 GOAL)

On scoring six goals in three games:
Couple of lucky shots, couple of good shots and a couple of good passes from my linemates. Petey was finding me all weekend and even Brooksy and Kivi at the end there. It was just a good weekend overall.

On the team’s goaltending:
Yeah, they really stepped up this weekend. We trust them back there and we have full faith that they’re going to shut the door when we need them to. It was a full team effort I feel and it was just good to see.

MATT READ (1 GOAL)

On how the team played in this weekend’s three-in-three:
I think all three games were a step in the right direction. Last month kind of got away from us and I think all three games we played, I wouldn’t say the full sixty every game but we certainly made strides and found our confidence and I don’t think there are too many teams that can play with us when we play such a full game and team game out there.
