LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. >> Lakers and Clippers eating together? In the bubble, it happens almost every morning. Makieff and Marcus Morris Sr. wouldn’t do it any other way. They stroll down to Three Bridges Bar and Grill and order bacon and eggs, or sometimes pancakes, every morning their schedules allow. They talk about their…
OK, Laker fans, you can breathe. Yes, I know. After all of those pre-bubble expectations, all those dreams of title No. 17, it took one loss to put this fan base that has waited so long to get back to the playoffs on the verge of a nervous breakdown. After all, with seven years of…
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Kyle Kuzma may be a newcomer to the NBA playoffs, but after his first-ever postseason game, a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, he grasped an essential truth of this time of the year: Don’t show weakness. Is he changing his routine after an iffy shooting night for him and…

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Before the Lakers played the Pacers on Saturday night, Frank Vogel looked back behind his bench to see his 14-year-old daughter Arianna in the crowd. The actual seat was some 2,500 miles away in Los Angeles, but her picture was on the digital screen, over the Lakers’ bench. The Lakers’…
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — As a season winds down, not even the NBA bubble can keep out talk of tanking. It’s been the talk of the Disney campus as the race for the Western eight seed — also known as the Lakers’ first-round opponent — has been heating up. Their opponents, with playoffs already…
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — There might come a time when Rockets-Lakers is a playoff series, pitting some of the NBA’s most vibrant stars and two extremely divergent basketball philosophies at odds. Thursday’s game between those teams offered very little insight into what that matchup might look like. Without LeBron James or any discernible sense…
LeBron gave a weird answer about this. He agreed that he and the Lakers were looking for a rhythm on offense. And then he said: “It’s just some things that you can’t control that’s here, that I really don’t want to talk about, that’s off the floor.”
Mike Trudell of the Lakers:
LeBron James (sore right groin) is out tonight against Houston. Alex Caruso (left neck muscle spasms) is questionable.
Four Lakers are listed as probable tonight: Anthony Davis (sprained right ankle); Markieff Morris (left hip contusion); Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (right ribs contusion); Dwight Howard (sore right knee).
Was LeBron referring to his groin injury? I wouldn’t call that an off-court issue, but maybe he would.
LeBron knows how to work the media. This subtle comment will draw attention and sets up LeBron to look better if he leads the Lakers through this mysterious issue.
Without more context, it’s easy for imaginations to wander – especially about a team with Dwight Howard, Dion Waiters and J.R. Smith. The Lakers could be facing a major hurdle. Or a minor nuisance. Who knows? But the unknown is scary.
It’ll be difficult to detect the Lakers’ progress during remaining seeding games. The Lakers have already clinched the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, and without a home-court advantage in the NBA Finals, there’s no reason to chase the NBA’s best overall record. That’s why LeBron missing tonight’s game against the Rockets could be mostly precautionary.Tags: Dion Waiters, Dwight Howard, J.R. SmithLeave a comment
ORLANDO, Fla. — It wasn’t easy and it wasn’t pretty, but the Los Angeles Lakers clinched the top seed in the Western Conference. They did it with a 116-108 victory over the Utah Jazz on Monday night, 4 1/2 months later than they expected to achieve the feat. As the Lakers await their first-round opponent, […]
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — With a number one seed in their grasp, the Lakers got a chance to look ahead — but maybe not the one they wanted. For two meetings now, the Toronto Raptors have flummoxed the West’s No. 1 team. On Saturday night, they swarmed LeBron James and Anthony Davis with length…
