POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On what he liked in tonight’s game:
The commitment and the buy-in. Everybody played pretty well. Hutchinson had a great game for us, made some really huge saves five-on-five and then the shootout there, his patience to shut the door on them. A lot of good efforts from a lot of guys.

On the importance of forwards Alex Steeves and Bobby McMann’s performance:
They’ve meant a lot to our team. They are a big part of it. Both of them are in a lot of situation whether it’s power play, penalty kill, five-on-five, we lean on them for a lot of things. The timeliness of them stepping up in big games like this has been something that has set them apart.

On heading into the last month of the season:
Just the preparedness for us to know how we need to play and prepare ourselves for hopefully the playoffs. It’s starting to feel like that anyways. This was a game where you could tell every shift was so important, every play was a big play no matter how big or small it was. It’s going feel like that the rest of the way. Regardless if it’s a divisional opponent or not, the points matter and everyone can start to feel it. You get to this time of year and teams are tighter and not giving up as many offensive chances and making less mistakes. Just our team’s consistency and patience to sticking to our plan and being confident in what we’re doing.

MICHAEL HUTCHINSON (100th CAREER AHL WIN)

On the team’s defence:
We had a really good defensive effort tonight. After their second goal, we really bared down. Players were blocking shots, picking up sticks and doing the little things as far as getting the puck out and battling. Myers was a great addition. He was all over the place tonight and really brought the energy for us too. If we play the way we did from the second goal on, we’re going to win a lot of games down the stretch.

On his 100th AHL win:
It’s cool. I didn’t even know I was anywhere close to that. I couldn’t tell you how many games I played or anything like that. I don’t follow my own career that closely … There’s not many players who are able to stick around long enough to reach those types of milestones … It’s nice to get that right now and I’m sure at some point after my career, I’ll look back on it, pretty special.

BOBBY McMANN (1 GOAL)

On tonight’s game:
Obviously really proud of the guys that played tonight and the group we’ve got because they went up early and we didn’t quit, we stuck with it. Didn’t give them much for the rest of the game and chipped away and were able to squeak one out in the shootout.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On today’s game:

Definitely not the result that we wanted. On any given night, it is a really tough league. It’s a tough division that we’re playing in so, credit to them for a big push after yesterday’s game. I thought we came out pretty good in the first period. I know we didn’t get the first one but our energy was in a good place, we were generating some chances.

On the message to the team following physical moments:
Just to keep sticking together, keep fighting through the adversity. It’s more about staying positive with them and trying to calm the tension. You want them to get emotional and get into the game but also find their confidence and their puck play and structure and not let the moments of the game derail everything about what we’re trying to do.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On today’s game:

It was a good 60-minute effort. Good energy, good start. We built momentum, got stronger as the game went on in terms of managing the puck and not giving them turnovers in transition towards our net.

On Källgren’s shutout:
He was great today. That’s back-to-back games in this barn where he’s done a really good job shutting the door. I don’t know if the shutout has been on the mind for anyone. I’m sure for him as any goalie is looking to get their first and even to this point, he probably deserves a shutout prior to this one. There were a couple of games here and there where we had some leads and we didn’t shut the door the way we should in the third period. He’s been really patient, he’s been working really hard. The consistency and the calmness in which he plays gives our team a lot of confidence.

JOEY ANDERSON (1 GOAL, 2 ASSISTS)

On today’s game:
Today was an awesome effort by everyone. Right out of the gate, we were physical. (Källgren) played great in the back end. We were simple with the puck. Like I said, I think this is the most physical game we’ve played and it’s just awesome that guys stepped up today. There wasn’t a guy out there that wasn’t carrying his weight. It was a complete 60-minutes from us today. It was really awesome for us to be able to help (Källgren) get that shutout today. It’s something we can build off of as a group.

ERIK KÄLLGREN (FIRST CAREER AHL SHUTOUT)

On his first shutout and whether he had thought about it this season:

You think about it. I think about it. You want to get the one. I’m not going to lie to you. We’ve been close a couple times before but of course we get the win and that’s the most important thing but to get that shutout is nice.

On the team’s performance in front of him:
We were very solid defensively. A couple of guys made some really big plays defensively. That obviously helps a lot. I think they had 11 shots for the last two periods. That definitely helps me. This is a team win and you can’t get a shutout without the team.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On the team’s four game winning streak heading into the break:

The team has put in a lot of work since the beginning of the season. I would say the last month or so in terms of our process, the starts to games, the maturity we’re starting to build in playing with leads or even coming back in games late in the third. There’s a lot of pieces right now that are coming together. We’re putting in the work and we’re getting the results.

On Michael Hutchinson:

He did great. He competed really hard, kept us in there in the first period. I felt as a team we built and got better slowly as the game went on. Second period was much better than the first. Hutch had some real timely saves to give our team confidence.

On Nick Robertson:
To be able to return after being out for so long and have such an impact this quickly is because of how hard he works off the ice and on the ice. He took his return to play very seriously. He was ready when the challenge came to return and we’re seeing the fruits of that labour.

MICHAEL HUTCHINSON

On today’s game:
It was kind of a strange start to the game. I felt like we were controlling a lot of in-zone time in their end, but the shot clock didn’t really reflect that. We had some good scoring chances there, we just missed the net. Then they had a few shots on their power play and after that they were really funneling pucks to the net and really crashing the net for rebounds. The shots add up pretty quick that way but it’s fun playing those games as a goalie because you’re always involved in the game and you’re into it early.

On Mac Hollowell’s performance:

It was awesome, I thought he played unbelievable all night tonight. Right from the get-go he was talking to me on our puck protections and exchanges behind the net. He was very vocal out there which was nice to see, especially a guy who was in and out of the lineup right now, and then the third period, everyone is talking about the fight, but he blocked one almost with his face on a seam pass. That’s a huge block right there in a tight game. He was doing all the little things tonight as well as being able to contribute on the scoresheet and have a good fight which is always nice to see when both guys come away unscathed, but it was good momentum for us.
