POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On tonight’s game:

There were definitely swings in momentum. We thought our team came out strong in the first period, really good start. Good response from yesterday’s first period. Second period, some penalty trouble. (Bridgeport) had a good pushback. It was probably at about the five or six minute mark left when we found our game again. I wish we had found it, a first period type game earlier in the second. And then the third period, it was just a wave of back and forth momentum but for the most part, thought we were in this game. The team did a really good job at having responses at the right time. We had a big push at the end. Thought the game could have gone either way.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On Toronto’s power play (2 goals):

It’s been an accumulation of things over some time. They did a really good job of going out and working as a group of five, executing our game plan. They’re starting to get more comfortable inside of the stuff we’ve given them. We had to change a few things but it paid off today. They did a really good job at having an impact and helping us win a hockey game today.

On Joey Anderson’s three-goal performance:
He’s really impressed the staff and the organization with how he conducts himself. Whether he goes up and he comes down, there is no lull in how he approaches what he does day to day. He’s one of our best leaders in the locker room and for him to come back and be as focused and dialled in with how he approaches his own individual game but also how much he cares about the team and leading and saying the right things at the right times, he was phenomenal today. Not just with the points but his attention to details defensively, finishing his hits, just a really tough person to play against, not even just with the points that he had.

On Erik Källgren’s performance:

He makes it look easy. He’s so technically sound. His balance and ability to recover and get to secondary shots and rebounds around the net is really impressive. He made some really big, key saves for us when the game was more within one goal there early and in the middle of the game. He’s found a lot of consistency and that’s because of his habits and his details.

JOEY ANDERSON (3 GOALS)

On his connection with Brett Seney:

It’s awesome. Brett’s one of my best friends off the ice too. The chemistry that we have there just builds on the ice and we both play the game the same way which makes it easy for us and we add different components that complement each other well. We both want each other to succeed which is the best part. I’m excited for him and he’s excited for me when things go our way. We do anything we can for each other.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On Toronto’s performance:

Inconsistent. The last time we played them, we had a better start, we had a better first 40 minutes. It wasn’t until the 10-minute mark, the shots were 5-1 them and then we got our game. We found it in the second half, the last 10 minutes of the first period, we outshot them nine to nothing. Came out in the second period, started to get rolling again and then they score a couple and it felt like there was lack of passion, lack of response, lack of energy on the bench.

On what Laval does well against Toronto:

They’re an aggressive team, they pressure hard. So, if we’re not finding our way on our retrievals and our breakouts they make it hard for us and the way they crash the net, we talked about it before the game of how much we’ve got to protect the crease and in-and-around our goalie and it was too easy for them to get there tonight. They had a couple tap-ins there where we just weren’t strong enough and having numbers at our net.

On Mrázek’s performance:
Petr played well. He looked good, didn’t look like he was hesitant. I thought he gave us a great effort and kept us in the game and a lot of mistakes and reasons for the pucks going in the net were on us.

PETR MRÁZEK

On how it felt to return to play following his injury:

It felt great. I haven’t played for a while and it’s good to get the action going and see the plays from the ice and how the game goes. So, happy to be back and happy to see the action.

On what he was looking to accomplish:

To make sure I settled in and see the play, be patient in the D zone and be aware of everything. Those things I’ve worked on in practice in more detail, but you know how it is, the game is always different.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On the team’s response following the late tying goal:
The energy was good all day. The guys were saying the right things on the bench. I didn’t feel at any point that we as a staff had to find a way for them to want to do the right things. It was a very mature game. Our young group has come a long way. As tough as the last week and a half has probably been with some of the games and results that we’ve had, they stuck to a process today and they’re starting to find their way.

On Keith Petruzzelli’s first AHL start and win:
He did a really good job. He reminds me a lot of Ian Scott with how calm he is in net. Any time that you have a goalie that can instill some confidence and stillness back there, it just gives confidence to the team in front of him to play well.

RYAN CHYZOWSKI (FIRST AHL GOAL)

On who he thought of with his first goal:

I think over the years it’s just my parents and everybody just helping me throughout my hockey career, and I think it’s just the sacrifices they’ve made, and I think it’s pretty special just to be able to kind of put into perspective scoring my first AHL goal. It’s taken a lot to get here so I’m really proud and proud to share that with them.

On the team’s response following the late tying goal:

It’s a pretty special group in there. I think there’s no doubt in anybody’s mind that when they scored that goal that we were still winning this game. It’s great for me to experience this weekend and get into some games, and it’s very special to get the win today.

KEITH PETRUZZELLI (30 SAVES, FIRST AHL WIN)

On his first AHL win and who has helped him get to this point:

It was a pretty special night. I didn’t know that it was Hockey Fights Cancer Night so, that was great too. My grandma passed away a few years ago from breast cancer, so I’m sure she was watching over me tonight. A couple posts, a couple lucky bounces. And just thanks to my parents, of course. I wouldn’t be here without them. My older brother and just all the coaches and people who helped influence my life.

On the team’s performance:

Boys were great; blocking shots, taking away opportunities, just making my job easy. You can’t ask for much more from a D core then that. It’s great to see guys buying in and blocking shots and stuff like that.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On tonight’s game:
I thought we could have easily been in this game. Their goalie had a really strong one. We were for the most part out chancing them through the first two periods and just couldn’t find the back of the net. Their goalie found a way to make some saves and I felt as though throughout the game we were in it all the way.

On the impact of recent call-ups including Ryan Chyzowski:
There was some opportunity today for guys to get in the lineup and play up in the lineup; get some ice time, responsible roles on the power play. It was a good opportunity for guys today to prove themselves in some spots, get some more ice time and thought everyone did a really good job with it. Chyzwoski won some big faceoffs for us and had an impact, brought some good energy. It’s good to know and see that we have good depth in the organization for guys that can fill in when we’re short some bodies.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On today’s game:
It was a strange game. We got too much into a foot race with this team. They had a really good transition game. They break out fast, they get above pressure really well. Early on, you could see the guys were committed to playing the right way, they wanted to put pucks to the bottom, establish our O-zone. We were a little disconnected with our pressure with F1 and F2. I thought that got better as the game went on but even so with our F3 trying to stay above, they have a really good breakout and line rush game, and it was tough to handle for us tonight. It’s definitely something we’ll have to focus on in the next two matchups coming in, but it wasn’t one of our better games throughout the 60 minutes. We had moments. We’ll continue to find that consistency and there were definitely guys out there competing. It was just one of those strange games where it was hard to find real rhythm and flow, but then at times we made some good plays and did some good things. We’ll just have to watch some video and digest it tonight.

On the power play (2 goals):

Those were big points for them. Early in the season there were a lot of things being done well and you could say they were at times unlucky. This last recent stretch there has been more clenching the sticks tight. Today was a good momentum builder for them.

JOSEPH DUSZAK (2 ASSISTS)

On today’s game:

We got a young team, so a lot of inexperience in the league. Any period, first, second, third period, the game’s never over. There’s a lot of good players in this league a lot of players that could be in the NHL, so you can’t just give them time and space and lay off the pedal or else they’re going to put it down your throat.

On the power play:

I like how we competed. We outworked the other team. Our break-ins were good, kicking out wide, driving, getting depth into the zone and then just outnumbering them. We have a lot of skilled players on this team on the power play and sometimes we don’t want to get dirty, but tonight I felt like we got dirty. We went into the corners, won the battles, outnumbered them, got the puck back and we were able to attack.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On tonight’s come-from-behind win:
I thought it started a little bit before the third period. Halfway through the second, we started to find our game. We definitely didn’t find our “A” game at the beginning. It wasn’t the start we had on Wednesday. But the group stayed with it, stayed positive. Throughout the second period, we started to find some momentum and got back to being more predictable as five guys on the ice, gaining some connection, connectivity of the five guys reading off each other. Going into the third period, a lot more energy on the bench, a lot more energy in the locker room. They picked themselves up. They’re starting to find some belief and trust and confidence with one another to find ways to win games.

On Michael Hutchinson:
Hutch was great. He gave us a big chance to win a hockey game today. Obviously with the amount of NHL experience he has, he brings a lot of veteran leadership to our group. He says a lot of the right things at the right time. He had a good game today and we’re proud of the way that he’s continued to push through and find wins for us.

JOSH HO-SANG (GAME-WINNING GOAL)

On the come-from-behind win:
Our team knows we didn’t bring our best game in the first period. We stuck with it and tried to do what Moore was asking us to do. We ended up getting rewarded. We learned last game that you have to play hard. I think we were still a little bit fragile after that loss last game but it was nice to see the boys’ resiliency and for them to come through and have a great game.

MICHAEL HUTCHINSON (24 SAVES)

On tonight’s game:
We were building our game. The first period didn’t go well, the second period was a little bit better. (Moore) definitely challenged us to come out and really put our best foot forward and I thought our guys really responded. We didn’t really give up much in the third period. We had a big five-minute kill. Penalties have definitely been a bit of an issue for us but our entire penalty kill did a good job tonight, especially on that one. Not only stopping their momentum but we were able to gain momentum off of it too. So, I thought that was huge and I thought it was a great response from our guys.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On tonight’s game:
It’s tough because we did a lot of good things in the first half. We accomplished everything we wanted to set out with our start, we played the way we wanted to play. We definitely got comfortable once we got the lead. It’s going to be a good lesson for our group. This is a tough league, that was a tough opponent, especially a rival opponent. We really just left too much time and space for them as the game went on.

JOEY ANDERSON (1 GOAL)

On the third period:
We just took our foot off the gas. I think we came out there and played two periods exactly how we wanted to. We had the game in our hands and it was just bleh. The third period was just kind of empty from us, and then we leave Hutchy out to dry there. The breakdowns we had obviously led to pucks in our net. It’s just not acceptable to come out after a period like that.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On today’s game:
(Chicago) had a great start. We were a little flat. They made it tough on us. They didn’t turn pucks over, they kept putting it in behind. They were establishing their O-zone. We were a little slow closing out plays in our defensive zone. They were spending way too much time in there. We knew they were going to come. We knew they were hungry after yesterday. As the second period came, the team started to come around, started to find our game. I thought we just got better with very shift. The team really rallied around themselves. We got back to our game plan that we had success with yesterday.

On Michael Hutchinson:
He made a lot of big saves. He’s a goalie who has a lot of experience. We’re really luck to have him here. He gave us an opportunity today to come back and win.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On tonight’s game:
It was a weird game. First thing is we’ve got to stay out of the penalty box. That’s something we’re having to waste too much time and energy on talking with the group. In the long term, we can’t play sustained hockey and win games if we’re going to be in the box that often. The positive to that is how good our penalty kill did at eliminating opportunities. Snowden has done a heck of a job with those guys and preparing them, keeping them organized and really building a mindset of how they’re attacking and approaching that area of the hockey game. It was really good to see a couple of guys really spring offensively. The puck play hasn’t been a really simple or smooth thing for us to work through the last couple of games. At times when we did find our space and our offence, I thought our puck play was pretty good.

On Bobby McMann:

He’s getting the ice tilted. He’s a very strong skater. He plays to his strengths and that’s just simply driving his feet, getting depth into the zone. He sets up the whole team with his power and his strength of forcing the other team to come all the way back into their D-zone, stop in their spots. He sets up the O-zone for our team and establishes a presence at that end of the rink. He has a heck of a shot when he has the time and space to shoot the puck. That line today of McMann, Douglas and Gabriel had an awesome start for us. They were determined at the beginning of the game to make sure that we got things going the right direction and they put the team on their back today.

BOBBY McMANN (1 GOAL, 1 ASSIST)

On tonight’s win:
I think we’re just focusing on our starts. It’s what Moore talked about pregame. Just trying to get a good start and play in the offensive zone and then good things happen usually. We’ve had a good week of practice and we followed that up in the game.

On his line with Curtis Douglas and Kurtis Gabriel:
Our game plan is just to skate, skate as hard as we can and try to turn pucks over. We know and have trust in the other guy that he’s going to be there to support you as that F2 and collect that puck if you’re first on it. Just trusting that that other guy is going to be there and giving your all.
