    POSTGAME QUOTES:
    HEAD COACH SHELDON KEEFE

On playing in another close game and if there are teaching moments in that third period:
Sheldon Keefe: There are teaching moments in every period, I thought especially in the first. We started
the game really well. We were lights out early, moving the puck well, offensively we were really good but I
don’t think we got a lot of shots on goal in the first 10-minutes but also the shots were on 3-1 or
something like that in the first 10-minutes. We were in really good control there, I thought we got a little bit
too comfortable, how we moved the puck, thought we turned it over a lot in the back half of that first
period and gave them some life. Yeah, there are teaching moments in the third but it’s not going to be
perfect when you’re protecting the lead. The goal we gave up, you don’t want to give that up but they
throw it in from the wall and hits a skate and bounces into the slot. That stuff is going to happen that’s
why playing in just one goal lead like we have in recent games that is dangerous territory. It’s dangerous,
usually in this league if you get to three you’re in pretty good space and we weren’t able to get there
tonight so we made it a little harder on ourselves than perhaps it should have been. I thought we were
calm throughout and thought we did a good job against a team like that, that has the level of skill that they
have, you’re going to have to rely on your goaltender to make some saves. I don’t think we gave up much
today in terms of odd man rushes and such. Obviously the Panarin breakaway in the third period we don’t
like which comes at the end of a dominant offensive zone shift and then lose the puck and they get in
behind us. In fact that is a bit of teaching point for us because of that balance – when you’re pushing
trying to score and winning your shift and trying to do well and all of sudden it breaks open on you and
that’s really what New York is looking for in that spot. We always find ways to teach each game but
overall good effort from our team.
    JACK CAMPBELL
On being comfortable in these tight games:
Jack Campbell: I think coach always brings it up, you look at the elite teams and they are closing games
out going into the third period. You know they got one on us tonight but found a way to get the win and
    get a big two points.
    MICHAEL BUNTING
How it feels during the team’s winning streak:
Michael Bunting: “It’s fun. It’s fun to be apart of. It’s fun to win hockey games. So that’s what we’re doing
right now and we just need to keep it day-by-day and keep this winning streak rolling.”
    On Morgan’s second goal:
Michael Bunting: “Yeah, it was a great play by him. Little mini back toe drag and then slip through the
five-hole. Really nice goal. He played a hell of a game tonight.”
    MORGAN RIELLY
On the team winning these low scoring tight games:
Morgan Rielly: Yeah we’ve had a few lately so it’s a good sign that we’re winning them. I think in the
previous ones that you mentioned against the Flyers and here the other night we were probably a bit
better in the third period than we were tonight but it was a good sign that we were able to hang on. I
thought that Jack did a great job in net for us. He’s been really solid and is a big part of that.
    On where it comes from:
Morgan Rielly: I think it’s a mindset. I think that is half the battle with most things if not more than that.
Once you kind of get it in your mind that you’re going to play a certain way and your just not going to give
up chances against, the rest kind of follows. I think the work ethic has always kind of been there, the real
desire to win has always been there but it’s just kind of a mental hurdle and mindset that I think we’re
starting to establish and that is a great sign.
    AUSTON MATTHEWS
On the team becoming more comfortable with protecting the lead in the third period:
Auston Matthews: I just think we’re comfortable in these games right now, obviously we’ve had a lot of
them lately. When the third period comes around we’re just trying to stay within our structure and I think
tonight we kind of let them get rolling around a little bit more than we’d like but Soupy has been just
incredible for us and making saves when he has to, he’s standing on his head. I liked a lot of what we did
tonight and like I said being in these tight games and being comfortable in them is really key for us.
On Morgan’s two goal performance and specifically his second goal:
Auston Matthews: Yeah really nice play, just really nice patience with it. I don’t know if he meant to go
there but it worked out but really nice goal and obviously a big goal in the game for us.

  • POSTGAME QUOTES:
    HEAD COACH SHELDON KEEFE

On if that was as complete of a game he’s seen form his team this year:
Sheldon Keefe: We’ve had a few. I think the third period was as good as we’ve played. We had a real
good one in Philadelphia as well but today it was a lot of the things we wanted to do; how we use our
bench, how we change, how we hold onto pucks and spend time in the other teams zone. Today the third
period was as good as it’s been there was lots of good things in the second. The first period there were
parts there we didn’t like so much but a really good win for our team.
    AUSTON MATTHEWS
On if this was one of the teams most complete games of the season:
Auston Matthews: Definitely on of them. I think the third period especially, just locking it down and
playing with good structure with all four lines not giving them too much and we ended up scoring a couple
to put the game away. Overall I thought that third period we really stepped up and shut the door.
On the play of the Kämpf-Kaše-Engvall line:
Auston Matthews: They’ve great for us all year. I mean those guys are just really good in all three zones.
Kämpf especially, he just always seems to be in the right spots. He’s got really good chemistry between
him and Kaše and Pierre but especially those two. I think growing up together, they have a really good
friendship off the ice and leads to a lot of really good play from them on the ice and they’ve been really
    good for us.
    JUSTIN HOLL
On if tonight was one of their best full team performances:
Justin Holl: I think so. There are obviously things we can do better in the first and second in terms of
letting guys behind us but we kind of limited that and made them earn their offense in the third period and
I thought the third period was probably the best third period we played all year in terms of giving them
nothing but also getting our o-zone game going.
On what he thought of Kaše’s shot blocking:
Justin Holl: I loved it. I little two pad stack, you love to see it. Those are the plays that win you games
and that’s a big compete play and he’s been doing that all year for us.
    JACK CAMPBELL
On getting a shutout in his 100th career NHL game:
Jack Campbell: It feels great. Nashville came in playing extremely well right now and the team played so
hard in front of me. I think the blocks at the end and really the whole game speaks for itself. I’m just really
lucky to play behind the blue guys tonight. We were great.
On the play of the Kämpf-Kaše-Engvall line:
Jack Campbell: We’re just lucky to have those guys. They kind of commit to their role of being an
amazing shutdown line but also have been producing a lot for us and we’re going to need that. They’re
great players so it’s really exciting to see them dominating on the defensive side of the puck and getting
    rewarded in the o-zone.
    DAVID KÄMPF
    On tonight’s game:
David Kämpf: I think we played good hockey today. The last period I think was great hockey from us. We
did what we wanted to, it was a good game.
    On his goal tonight:
David Kämpf: It’s always good if you score so I’m happy. It was a good pass from Ondřej, and I tried to
shoot it and it went in so very happy.

    POSTGAME QUOTES:
    HEAD COACH SHELDON KEEFE
Q: On getting the win for Joseph Woll in his debut:
Sheldon Keefe: “It was nice to get it for him. Obviously for him coming in here today, his focus is to
come in and do the job for the team and get two points so for us to get it out there, regardless of how we
got it, I’m happy for him and his family.”
    JOHN TAVARES
    Q: On Joseph Woll’s performance:
John Tavares: “I think he played great. I’m sure a lot of jitters, a lot of butterflies for him. He looked
confident and calm. It’s too bad we didn’t do a better job in front of him, but we fought right until the end
and then got a big W so always nice to get him the first one.”
    MORGAN RIELLY
    Q: On Joseph Woll’s performance:
Morgan Rielly: “He’s a good young man. He’s a smart kid, works hard and puts his time in… I thought Joe
was really good so that’s great and obviously there are areas of our game we need to clean up. But the
fact that he gets to walk out here with a win and a game puck and a game like that is awesome and he
deserves it and is playing hard.
    MICHAEL BUNTING
Q: On getting the win for Joseph Woll in his debut:
Michael Bunting: “Yeah we definitely wanted to play for him and play strong in front of him. We had a
couple hiccups that weren’t his fault at all but I thought he played unbelievable in the net and he stood in
there strong for us when we weren’t playing our best so I’m really happy for him and I’m sure it’s going to
be a night he’s going to remember for the rest of his life.”
    JOSEPH WOLL
Q: How his NHL debut has felt – from when he knew was getting the start until tonight:
Joseph Woll: “From the moment I knew I was getting the start it was pretty special. It’s something you
dream of as a kid and I’m just happy I was able to do it with the Leafs. Then for tonight, I think it was such
a special team win. I look at how well they played in front of me and especially after they came back and
made it 4-4 and then we just controlled and dominated the game until the end there. So I can’t say
enough good things about this team and it was pretty cool to see how much they had my back out there.”

    POSTGAME QUOTES:
    HEAD COACH SHELDON KEEFE

    Q: On tonight’s game:
Sheldon Keefe: I just thought we did a really good job of defending our net today both coming into our
zone and into the defensive zone. I really liked our special teams, penalty killing was outstanding. That
gives us a lot of life and lot of chances obviously to keep it out of our net. If we keep the score down and
keep the game manageable as offence was hard to come by. And then we get a goal and I don’t think we
gave them very much after that, and the power play come through and we get a nice insurance goal so I
just liked the intensity of our team played with defensively in a game we knew was going to be low event
and hard to get much offence as a team in Philadelphia that hasn’t given up much throughout the season
in terms of chances against and goals against so we needed to be able to be comfortable playing in a
tight game. When we went into the third, we talked about being comfortable winning the game 1-0 if that’s
what it was going to take and we thought that if we had that approach there would be some offence
available to us. Textbook third period in a lot of ways. It was a clean win for our team.
    AUSTON MATTHEWS (TWO ASSISTS)
    Q: Good response game?
Matthews: “…Really good response from us. Everybody down the lineup just really, really solid all
throughout. Soupy was unbelievable for us, just like he’s been all year. Big kudos to him but I just thought
our effort from puck drop was just really solid throughout the whole game.”
    Q: On William Nylander:
Matthews: When he’s going, he’s going. When he’s skating and moving his feet, he’s dangerous all over
the ice and he leads the play well obviously with his skills and his skating. He sees the ice well and he’s
easy to play with. He’s been shooting the puck a little bit more and it’s obviously been going in so he’s
obviously a huge part of this team so when he’s going it obviously makes it a lot easier on us.
    JACK CAMPBELL (36 SAVES)
Q: Do you feel like you were able to bounce back from the other night?
Campbell: “Certainly. You could tell right from the get-go that we had a serious purpose out there and
just executed the whole night. To beat a team like Philly in their own building, and then you gotta win the
net front, they have a lot of great players in front of the net and they weren’t able to get any tips out there
and we were just doing such a great job in front.”
Q: Did you feel like you were in the zone tonight?
Campbell: “I felt like everybody was in the zone, top to bottom. Doesn’t matter who it was, everybody did
their job and did it for 60 minutes. It’s great to see.
    WILLIAM NYLANDER (TWO GOALS)
Q: Did you think your first goal was going to survive video review?
Nylander: “I didn’t really know. I didn’t know if I kicked it or not but when I got to the bench they told me it
was a goal so I was pretty confident that it would be a goal.”
Q: Do you feel like you’re in a zone right now?
Nylander: “Yeah, I think we’re buzzing as a line, creating a lot of chances, and the power play is starting
    to get really good.
