HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On what can be cleaned up from today’s win:
Consistency has been a big word in our room. We have found consistent starts. That was something we really wanted to focus on at the beginning of the season and I feel as though the team has a done a good job at that. The first period lead that we got set us up for success. You’d like the group in the second period to come out and really give (Abbotsford) nothing. I felt like we got a little comfortable, some poor puck decisions through the middle of the rink which fueled their opportunities. But then found a way again in the third period to get a win.

On Keith Petruzzelli in relief:
The big glove save in the third period was beautiful. We obviously don’t want to give up a chance like that but he kept us in the game. It’s always tough coming into a game partial way like that and to play the way he did was great. Yesterday was not a reflection on him (6-1 loss against Belleville). Being up, it had been some time since he had been in some game action and it can always take a little bit to find your timing, but he played well for us yesterday. Yesterday was more about the team giving up the chances that he did.

On Mikhail Abramov’s game-winning goal:

(It was) huge. The season hasn’t gone to plan as he would have expected with opportunity and ice time. He’s doing a great job at finding his way. He didn’t get to start the season in training camp and get his legs under him like the other guys did. He’s a great player that we really believe in and it was good to see him like that.

ADAM GAUDETTE (1 GOAL, 1 ASSIST)

On today’s game:

It’s always tough playing back-to-backs but we came out hard and got off to a good start which is what we’ve been focusing on. Definitely got to clean up the middle of the game to have a full 60 minutes of controlling the game but credit to us, we didn’t give up, we didn’t get down on ourselves. We just went back to work in the third period. There’s definitely things to work on and the good thing about back-to-back-to-backs is we’ve got another game tomorrow to work on stuff.

On Keith Petruzzelli:
He’s been great all year. He’s been an anchor for us all year. Coming in cold like that after a back-to-back is not something easy to do but he came in and Ferguson played great to start us off and then Petruzzelli picked it up after he went out and held us in there.

Really proud of the team. The determination, the discipline, the competitiveness, the belief in each other and in the group to find points out of this weekend through the adversity we went through – volumes, it speaks volumes how the guys came together this week.

On the penalty kill:

Snowy’s done a great job this year at getting our penalty kill organized and having such a high standard for executing the plan and the details and our players have really gone out there and competed. Tons of blocked shots today. You can tell everyone really bought in.

On goaltender Billy Christopoulos:
There was definitely a lot of confidence in his ability to come in and play. Given the situation, I thought he was technically sound and was calm and gave us a chance to win and made our team feel calm from the net.

I think it’s absolutely unbelievable. This group is very resilient. We came hard, we came committed. It didn’t matter who was out, it was very next man up. Great effort from guys who were coming in on very short notice and overall, it was an incredible game. Our penalty kill was lights out, our defence played amazing, our forwards were great and when you look at the commitment of our team, it was a very good sign of what’s to come in the coming weeks with the playoffs. I think that’s the kind of jam that you need to be able to go far.

I think it was a message a lot from the players. They were all just really grateful for how hard he competed, how hard he played and he gave us a chance to win the game.

On tonight’s game:

Anytime you’re on the road, teams usually come out pretty hard in their own building. I thought we did a good job of weathering that and managing it. The majority of their chances were on the outside of the perimeter and we protected the middle of the rink well. Then eventually once we started driving the puck down the rink and we get the first one, we started to have more success finding ways to get to their end.

TALOR JOSEPH (FIRST PROFESSIONAL WIN)

On nerves heading into this first professional start:
There’s always nerves and butterflies, especially in a situation like this but you just really have got to stay in the moment and appreciate the opportunity. This doesn’t come around every day and it’s really a blessing that it happened to me. I’m very fortunate. I’m thankful.

On his performance:

I feel like it’s a little bit easier to make plays because they’re doing such a good job up here. I find it a little easier with the structure of it and being able to read plays but obviously the guys can shoot the puck really well and if they catch it, they’re going to catch it. Those guys made my life easy tonight, so I was very happy.

When we’re playing on our toes and we’re playing with pace and all five guys on the ice are playing with a purpose and a plan, we’re typically not taking penalties. When we’re reaching, when we’re falling behind, our structure is not in place, it puts us in tough spots. I mean you can always argue the bounces, when refs may be calling things that you don’t think are penalties and it goes back and forth for all teams throughout the whole season. We’re hitting a rough patch here, but we just got to stay off the refs, we’ve got to take care of ourselves, take ownership of our play and make sure we stay out of the box.
