POSTGAME QUOTES:
AUSTON MATTHEWS
On the team’s resiliency after giving up the lead:
“Obviously it’s not a position that we like to be in. Especially over the course of the last couple weeks but
we pulled out the two points and just the resiliency and poise of the group to just keep playing even when
the momentum switches and I think we’d really just like to be more consistent throughout the 60 minutes,
especially in that second period. Obviously some things for us to clean up but I just think the resiliency of
the team is to stick with it and continue to play and some good goals.”
MITCH MARNER
On tonight’s game:
“Obviously we don’t want to give up that lead, we’ve been doing it too much lately but kind of from that
10-minute point on in the third to the end I thought we did a great job of maintaining that neutral zone and
making it hard to get through us. I thought we were breaking out cleanly and breaking the puck up the ice
and making it kind of ugly for them to try and create anything there in that last 10.”
On tonight’s powerplay:
“A lot of puck movement, guys moving to the net and getting shots through and we were getting results
off of it.”
MICHAEL BUNTING
On the team’s response after losing the lead:
“I thought our team played great, obviously we can’t be giving up leads like that again and they took the
lead but I thought we responded pretty well and our line had a good tying goal and then Mitch right away
on the powerplay scored a really nice one. I thought we responded pretty well tonight.”
On the team’s ability to come back in games:
“As a team we don’t want to be giving up leads like that but we have faith in one another and we have the
offensive power through all four lines to come back. We always believe in ourselves no matter what the
score is we believe that we can come back and that’s huge for us.”
JACK CAMPBELL
On tonight’s win:
“It was great, we got two points and the team played well. Happy for Simmer, we got the win for him.”
On how he felt in net tonight:
“Stevie [Briere] came up with a good game plan, it doesn’t change much from the rest of the year but I
just executed it better tonight. I gave up four but I’m not going to beat myself up too hard tonight. I’m
going to look at it and keep working on some details, but I felt much better, and the team played great in
front of me.”
