POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On tonight’s game:

The whole effort, everything that the team brought today was impressive. Really proud of the group. These last three games we’ve put together, last game we didn’t get the result we wanted but they extended the way they played today. It was just a gutsy effort. It was fun to watch them dig one out.

On Michael Hutchinson:
That’s a tough spot for a goalie to be out that many games, he comes in and plays phenomenal. Made some huge saves for us, gave us a chance to win the game here in a tough building.

JOEY ANDERSON (1 GOAL, 1 ASSIST)

On rebounding from last night’s loss:

It was great. I thought last night we put forth a really great effort, didn’t get the result we wanted but we kept that going tonight. Guys were all pulling on the rope together and it was just a really good 60 minutes and a little more than that tonight. We had every guy pulling on the rope tonight and doing the little things we needed to do to win and Hutchy steps in after not playing for a while and was awesome for us and it was great to see that. It was a really good night for the guys to get this win.

    POSTGAME QUOTES
    HEAD COACH GREG MOORE
    On tonight’s game:
I thought the chances were still pretty even for the most part throughout the game. The game could have gone either way.
In the D zone we just needed a couple more blocks and shot lanes and boxing out the net front, but given the
circumstances of the day and the guys kind of being thrown in the blender for the most part with the lineup and the lines, I
thought everyone did an excellent job of finding their way today.
    On tonight’s lineup:
Obviously a very different lineup. A lot of different lines put together. As the first period went along, we started to do a lot
of good things. With the shot totals at the end of the first you could tell that we found our legs and found some rhythm
within ourselves and got some opportunities towards the net in the first.
    BOBBY McMANN (1 GOAL)
    On tonight’s game:
It was a bit of a tough start for us. That’s something that we’re working on and we’ve been battling with that this year. We
just felt like we were behind the eight-ball from the get-go there and if we would have had a better start, I think we would
have had a different outcome that’s for sure because I just felt like we were skating behind it and chasing it a little bit off
the start and that’s not a way you want to start the game.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On the power play being affect by a lack of execution or a hot netminder:
Probably more so a hot netminder. Towards the end we got some really good looks. He found a way to make saves. Our earlier power plays we didn’t execute on some of our entries and stick to our game plan, so we had a hard time there with some turnovers. They found their way and they just couldn’t find the back of the net towards the end.

On Toronto keeping composure through the game:
Yeah, we were expecting them to come out much harder than yesterday. They proved that. They had a real good push in the first five minutes. We were pretty happy with how the team responded to that push. We got better as the period went on, we started to find our game and it was a good process for us. The team played hard, played the right way. It was just one of those games that we just couldn’t find the extra goal.

On whether momentum was a part of the decision in pulling Joseph Woll for an extra attacked at 15:44 of the third period:
One hundred per cent. It’s a few things. One, sometimes it might catch the other team off guard, they’re not expecting what guys to have on the ice at that moment within those moments if you do it early. Lot of times coaches are trying to time their more defensive guys for those last few minutes and if you do it a little bit early, you might catch some of their offensive guys on the ice who aren’t as responsible and second, you get a feel for where the game’s going. I thought we had a nice tilt in our favour to where we could apply some pressure and maybe get some extra time with an extra guy on the ice.

On defencemen Teemu Kivihalme and Timothy Liljegren:
Yeah, they played well. They’re both great skaters who can transition the game really well for us. They’re able to defend up ice. A lot of times teams don’t even get into our end because they can take pucks away at the offensive blue line and red line. It was really nice to have Liljegren back in the lineup.

On Joseph Woll’s performance tonight:
He played really well, gave us a chance to win a hockey game, made some big saves. It was good to see him in a game like this. It was kind of a playoff energy and mentality. It was a huge two points for us. We believe he did a great job and what was needed for us to win a hockey game.

SYRACUSE 8, MARLIES 2: “There was too much inconsistency in effort. Some guys are going, some guys are not. We need to be rolling as an entire team and playing as a group of five, relying on each other and wanting to play for each other. We didn’t have that tonight.” –GREG MOORE.

   POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On what Toronto had planned against Syracuse’s speed:
(Against) any team that plays fast, the work of our forwards to reload, get over top allows our D to hold good gap, our D are holding good gap and are confident with our forwards in their spot, they’ve got to work together as a group of five to deny their lines and deny their speed. (Syracuse) had a pretty good game plan, they flipped some pucks in the neutral zone, they were glassing some pucks, they were just taking off, making it difficult on us tonight.

On whether there was cohesiveness amongst Toronto’s five-man units:
There was too much inconsistency in effort. Some guys are going, some guys are not. We need to be rolling as an entire team and playing as a group of five, relying on each other and wanting to play for each other. We didn’t have that tonight.

On what his feeling was on the team’s play in front of Toronto’s goaltenders:
Frustrating. They’re their teammates, they need to protect them. We weren’t good enough in front of those guys, they owe them big time. There’s been a lot of games this year that they have probably helped them and bailed them out. To let them down tonight is hard.
